My own journey learning to read is maybe something you wouldn’t expect from an educational instructor. In fact, I couldn’t read until I was 8 years old, and continued to struggle after that. My difficult experiences with reading have stuck with me since that first time. But while I remember how I struggled, I also remember all of the personal triumphs and shared celebrations when I could finally read and understand all of the words in front of me.
I now have a Master of Science in Education with an emphasis in Reading and Literacy from Cal State Fullerton. After receiving my Master’s Degree, I dedicated two years of service to AmeriCorps, through Reading Partners Los Angeles, teaching lower-income students struggling to read at their grade level. I’ve researched and applied methods for emerging readers and those that need guidance and motivation in multiple different contexts.
My background and focus on reading and literacy has led me to become an instructional coach for readers who struggle just like I did. I have experience in private and public, as well as home-school education, so my experience is very well-rounded. Though I’m comfortable in different teaching settings, my strength and passion are in individualized, one-on-one instruction.
